Why This Retreat?
Dance teachers give so much to others — but rarely take time to work on their own body.
This retreat blends applied neurology with movement training to help you:
• reduce unnecessary tension
• improve energy and recovery
• build more reliable balance and mobility
• feel more clear and supported in your movement
So you can return to teaching with a body that feels better—and tools you can actually use.
What Makes This Retreat Different
This week isn’t about collecting more teaching tips — it’s about you.
Your body. Your movement.
You’ll learn how vision, balance, and proprioception influence mobility, coordination, and energy—and how to assess what actually helps your body improve.
This isn’t theoretical.
You’ll experience the changes in real time.
And when something works for your body, you’ll understand how to apply it in your teaching—clearly and confidently.

Beyond the studio
Time is intentionally built in to enjoy the setting—whether that’s being poolside, visiting nearby towns, or joining a special excursion to two Cinque Terre villages.
All-inclusive
Your accommodations, meals, workshops, and local experiences are all included—so you can fully settle in and focus on yourself.
Why Tuscany?
The body responds to change.
When you step into a new environment, your nervous system becomes more alert, more responsive, and more open to learning. It’s one of the reasons travel can feel so energizing—you feel more awake, more present, more alive.
Could you make these changes at home?
Of course. It’s just harder.
Daily life is full of responsibilities, habits, and distractions—especially for teachers who are used to taking care of everyone else first.
This retreat is an opportunity to step away from that.
To focus on your own body.
To have space to think, rest, and choose how you spend your time.
You might explore a nearby village, sit by the pool, take a walk, or simply do nothing for a while.
And all of this happens in one of the most beautiful regions in the world—surrounded by nature, history, incredible food, and a culture that invites you to slow down and enjoy it.
Before You Decide
Do I need to be an advanced dancer?
No. This retreat is designed for dance teachers, yoga instructors, Pilates and movers of all levels. The focus is on improving how your nervous system supports movement—not pushing intensity.
Can I come on my own?
Yes. Many participants come independently. The small group size creates a welcoming, supportive environment, and people tend to connect quickly.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day includes a morning movement session, with time in the afternoon to rest, explore, or join planned outings. The structure is intentional—but not rigid.
What’s included?
Your accommodations, all meals, daily instruction, and planned excursions—including a Cinque Terre boat day—are all included in your registration.
Do I need to plan anything?
No. Once you arrive, everything is taken care of. The goal is for you to be able to fully immerse without worrying about logistics.
Can I come with a friend, partner, or family member?
Yes. You’re welcome to share the experience with someone. Non-dancers are welcome and can participate in as much or as little of the movement sessions as they like.
What about shared rooms?
If you come with a friend or colleague and share a room, there is a $200 savings per person available.
Is this more like a training or a retreat?
It’s both. You’ll learn practical, brain-based tools to improve how you move—but there is also plenty of time to rest, explore, and enjoy the experience.
What about getting there?
The retreat is designed to make travel as smooth as possible.
One night in a hotel in Florence is included before the retreat begins, as well as one night at the end. We’ll travel together by bus from Florence to the retreat location and back.
This allows you to arrive, settle in, and transition into the experience without having to manage the details on your own.
Detailed travel information will be provided after registration, and support is available if you need guidance.
We’ll be staying at an ancient (16th Century) hamlet that has been renovated and turned into an agriturismo. It’s set on top of a hill where you can look upon the Apennine and Apuan Alps, and surrounded by the green mountains of Lunigiana.
Being surrounded by nature will help stressors melt away. When not in a class with Deborah you can lounge by the swimming pool, read a book, or meander along ancient foot paths on foot, by mountain bike or horseback.
Each double room has an ensuite bath. The rooms/baths are simple and functional. European baths designed in the 16th century will not compare to the large and spacious baths often found in new homes. You won’t be spending much time in your room with so much to explore and learning adventures to be had!
For those who attended the Tuscany Retreat will attest to how amazing Italian food is! Gluten intolerant? Vegetarian? No problem! Indulge in healthy, inspiring, vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes, incorporating a wide selection of locally sourced fresh organic ingredients, providing a culinary experience that will nourish and satisfy. We’ll enjoy complimentary wine with dinner and be treated to typical dishes of the Lunigiana region.
